3D Intra-Oral Scanner
With the advancement in technology, it is now possible to use a scanner to record the features of the mouth and teeth without the need for an impression or mould to be taken. This is a far more comfortable experience and is especially useful in patient’s that gag when impressions are taken.
The scanning head is placed in the mouth and moved side to side to record the features needed.
At The Aesthetic Smile Collective, we have chosen the Dentsply-Sirona Primescan. It is one of the most advanced scanners available and suits the type of work we do here at the practice.
What can be made from the scans?
A wide range of appliances can be made from the scanning including:
- Crowns
- Veneers
- Bridges
- Dentures
- Mouth guards
- Grinding splints
- Retainers
- Clear aligners
- Diagnostic models
- Digital planning and smile design
The scanning is extremely accurate and the veneers, crowns and bridges are made with the use of CAD-CAM software and then hand finished.
What other benefits are there to using a scanner?
Apart from comfort and accuracy, the scanner can be much quicker than taking an impression.
The scans can be sent directly to the laboratory on-line so the turnaround time is faster.
The scans be assessed instantly and modified if needed, rather than take another impression.
It is a great way to show our patients how their teeth look, with the ability to zoom into areas to show cracks, wear on teeth, fillings and gum recession.
Here are some images from a scan to highlight the level of detail that is captured:
