Information on Nitrous Oxide

The Aesthetic Smile Collective now offers Nitrous Oxide (also known as ‘Happy Gas’). We understand that many patients suffer from dental anxiety, which can negatively impact their oral health and overall well-being. Nitrous Oxide can be highly effective in reducing mild to moderate dental anxiety, making appointments more comfortable and relaxing.

What Is Nitrous Oxide?

Dentists use Nitrous Oxide (Happy Gas) sedation to induce patient relaxation during procedures. It involves a carefully measured blend of Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen, adjusted to each patient for optimal comfort and anxiety relief.

How it works: The patient wears a small, scented silicone nose mask and breathes in the gaseous mixture. Within 5 minutes of inhalation, the effects can be felt and may include one or a combination of the following sensations:

  • Warmth
  • Lightheadedness
  • Tingling of extremities
  • Lightness/heaviness of extremities
  • Euphoria
  • Feeling of vibration
  • Relaxation of the muscles

Nitrous Oxide Sedation At The Aesthetic Smile Collective

Once you have fully relaxed, the treatment will begin, with the mask remaining on throughout the procedure. At the end of the appointment, you will be given pure oxygen for 5 minutes to reverse the effect of the Nitrous Oxide. Within 15 minutes, the effects will wear off, enabling you to carry on with your daily activities, including driving, as long as you feel completely recovered.
